Early May Gallery Show: Signs of Resistance!

Coming Up Violets is finally, at long last, going to start putting on gallery shows. It's in our blood, it's a major part of what we opened this shop to do, but it's taken a while to get there. The first show will be in early May - the date has yet to be determined, and please leave a comment if you have strong feelings about what dates would be better or worse for this! We are looking at the following time frame:

One afternoon/evening between Thursday 4/30 - Sunday 5/3, or Thursday 5/7 - Sunday 5/10

The theme for the first show will be about displaying all the best protest signs - either signs you've actually held up at a recent protest, or just signs that you make in the next three weeks that you want folks to see. You can also bring a vintage protest sign if you've got some really old ones lying around that seem relevant in any way to the present moment.

DO NOT WORRY about whether your signs are "good enough" to exhibit - in fact, don't think of this like a normal gallery exhibition at all. This is a community event and we want the walls to be as completely covered in signs as possible, so if you have a sign - JUST BRING IT!

This event is open to anyone who feels that Mentone, Alabama is near enough to travel to, both for exhibiting and for simply attending.

Want to participate but don't have a sign to display? No problem! Come work on a sign at the studio!

Between now and then, the studio will be open

- Thursdays 10 - 3,

- Fridays 10 - 4 (later with RSVP), and

- Saturdays 10 - 4 (Sundays 11 - 3 are possible with RSVP)

for anyone who would like to make a protest sign of their own!

You can come whether you'd like help making a protest sign or if you just want a place to go work on one around other people.
Bring your own materials if you can, but if you don't have supplies, you can use ours!
You can keep your sign here for as long as you need if you're not comfortable bringing it home for any reason.
